The Compose Creative Writing Conference will take place on May 2 at CCC’s Oregon City Campus in Roger Rook Hall, with check-in beginning at 9 a.m. The cost is $5 per session and lunch is available for an additional $10.
This daylong event features workshops in fiction, poetry, playwriting, memoir, comics, songwriting, creative nonfiction, digital storytelling and publishing led by local authors. Presenters and special guests include: Screenwriters Gill Dennis (Walk the Line) and Rafael Alvarez (The Wire); National Book Award-winning poet Mary Szybist; Diana Schutz of Dark Horse Comics; Jeff Baker, film and literary critic for The Oregonian; and award-winning authors Willy Vlautin, Kevin Sampsell, Nicole J. Georges, Jay Ponteri, Samuel Snoek-Brown, Nick Triolo, Annalisa Tornfelt, Terry Blas, Trista Cornelius and Joanna Rose. CCC English Department faculty presenters include Sue Mach, Kate Gray, Taylor Donnelly, Jaime Wood, Matt Warren, Sue Pesznecker, Nicole Rosevear and Marlene Broemer.
“Storytelling Now” is a free seminar that will commence during the evening of Compose. This seminar features Rafael Alvarez, Diana Schutz, Gill Dennis, and other new media creatives in a discussion of the art and craft of storytelling in the digital age.
