Av Club and Basil Hayden Present This Is My Portland

11 Nov 2014|

At “This Is My Portland,” the fifth and final event of The A.V. Club & Basil Hayden’s “This Is My…” event series, we explored the themes of literature at Reverend Nat’s Hard Cider & Tap Room in Portland. We brought together independent publishers, writers, and book binders to help tell the story of how Portland’s literary community thrives on the power of small-batch makers.

Over 70 attendees gathered to meet the makers, sip on delicious Basil Hayden’s cocktails, and explore their city through a new light. We also invited two writers to craft short stories based on the cocktails, and enjoyed live “Cocktail Readings.” From representatives of Hawthorne Books, an independent publisher, to James Yeary, a poet who hand stitches books, to Sarah Mirk, an author who created a short story about our “Stone Fence” apple cider cocktail, the event touched on various parts of the book-making process, and was hosted in a venue that used to be a book bindery. The evening was topped off with three extraordinary seasonal cocktails from local mixologists and iconic Portland street food from Bro Dogs.
