12 Jul 2014|

This week on the Live Like You Mean It Podcast I talk to Monica Wesolowska, author of the acclaimed memoir, Holding Silvan: A Brief Life. The true story of losing her first-born child, Holding Silvan is a sad, yet joyous book of the life that was. Monica discusses her writing process for the book, why gossip is useful (especially for new mothers), and her advice for presenting a personal work to your friends and family. And this week, we also tried a Videocast so you can check it out below on YouTube!

StoryShelterHow do you think StoryShelter will improve people’s lives?

Monica WesolowskaWe hide so much from each other. There’s so little time or space to reveal ourselves. Instead, people envy each other for superficial things. I know because, when my first son died as a newborn, I felt as if I were the only person in America who’d ever lost a child. Everyone else looked so happy. But every time I blurted the story out, I discovered the hidden pain of my neighbors and friends. Whether or not people know the specific pain of losing child, every person knows pain. Story shelter is a place to come and find those stories we need when we need them. Hearing other people’s stories, we find a shape for our own. Having a shape for our own stories, we can go on.
